What is Bit / Bits?
Twitch's virtual currency used for cheering in chat. 100 bits equals $1 to the streamer. Large bit donations often create clippable reactions.
Bits are Twitch's proprietary virtual currency that viewers can purchase and use to "cheer" in a streamer's chat. Each bit is worth $0.01 to the streamer, so a 1,000-bit cheer equals a $10 donation. Viewers buy bits from Twitch at a slight markup (100 bits costs $1.40), and the cheers appear as animated emotes in chat.
From a clipping perspective, bit donations are interesting because large cheers (1,000+ bits) often trigger notable reactions from streamers. Twitch plays a special sound and animation for big cheers, momentarily drawing the streamer's attention and creating a natural "moment" — especially if the cheer message is funny, touching, or provocative.
The most clippable bit moments come from unexpected mega-donations (10,000+ bits), funny bit messages that catch the streamer off guard, bit wars where viewers compete to see who can cheer more, and goal completions where reaching a bit milestone triggers a special event or challenge.
Bits are part of Twitch's broader monetization ecosystem alongside subscriptions and direct donations (through third-party services like Streamlabs). For streamers, bits represent a more casual revenue stream — viewers who might not subscribe might still send bits during exciting moments. For Twitch, bits are a significant revenue source since they take a cut on every bit purchased.
When clipping bit-related moments, make sure the cheer message is visible on screen (many streamers have chat overlays or alerts). The combination of the message content and the streamer's reaction is what makes these moments work as clips.

Subscription (Sub)
A monthly paid membership to a streamer's channel, typically $4.99/month. Sub goals, gift sub trains, and sub milestones create highly clippable moments.
Emote
Custom emoji-like images used in Twitch/YouTube chat. Emotes are a core part of stream culture, and popular emotes (like KEKW or PogChamp) often indicate clippable moments.
Chat Overlay
A visual display of live chat messages on the stream video. For clippers, chat reactions on screen add context and entertainment value to clips.
